Pet Acupuncture

grn

Acupuncture is a safe, non-invasive medical treatment that has been practiced in Asia for thousands of years. Eastern medicine believes that the driving force of life is

Qi (Chi),

which moves through the body via energy-conducting channels called meridians. When the Qi is flowing smoothly, one feels healthy and energetic. When the Qi becomes stagnant, diseases occur.

Our body is like a map. There are twelve major meridians that carry the Qi like freeways conducting traffic. Along the meridians are energy dense areas called acupoints that are like cities along the freeway. Acupuncture works by inserting a very fine needle into the acupoints to stimulate the Qi to regain smooth flow.

Electroacupuncture machine can be used to increase the stimulation by delivering a minute electrical current through the needle into the acupoints. Fluid, such as vitamin B12, saline, and adequan can be injected into the acupoints to generate long-acting stimulation. This procedure is called aquapuncture.

Acupuncture has been used in Asia to treat all sorts of medical conditions including providing anesthesia. In

veterinary medicine, acupuncture

is most effective in treating intervertibral disc disease, arthritis, internal organ degeneration, skin problem, gastrointestinal problem, etc. Every pet has its own unique constitution and temperament. Our veterinarian will need to evaluate your pet to determine if acupuncture is indicated and suitable for your pet.
